This is the first time I submit for LOUPE Awards which previously known as  Aperture Awards with the result of One Silver Award and Seven Bronze Awards. It was a good experience and great feedback from the judges. It added to the collection on over 60 awards and achievement for the past 4 years in my photography path.

i just read one of my photographer buddy ‘s email from his client which she think photographers are the magician !
with his permission, let me share some of the points that brought up by the client:

-Can touch up facial expression to look more refresh?
-Can make the door proportion?
-Can you use my husband’s face from image XXXX and my face from YYYY for the image on NNNN ?
-I like the image of XXXX but my eyes are closed, can you edit it ?
-for the reflection image, can you edit away all reflection and just leave one there?
-can you remove the car behind us? just focus on me and the pots will do
-can you edit our face expression to have more feel?
-Can edit the lighting? For sky, I don’t mind if you use fake backgrounds etc to make it pretty…
- Can edit these photos into close up photos that can be enlarged?
-Can edit my armpit ?
- Can remove the furniture around us? ..just focus on my face and ceiling lights

even though he explain what “touch up” and “post process” mean during the meeting and discussion, he receive a full-page long list with such request.

As a professional wedding photographer, I am not sure if I can laugh about this or shall I feel sad ? I guess his client need illustrator , Photoshop expert (a photoshoper?? ) and not a photographer.

so, what is your expectation?

After days of waiting on the assessment by AIPP, Australian Institute of Professional Photography, I am now been accepted as the accredited member of AIPP, the leading professional photography institute with history of more than 40years in the industry. As one of CPS  (Canon Professional Services) members, I am honoured for the invitation on the event today to witness the momentous occasion  for Canon groundbreaking flagship model – Canon EOS 1D X global launching including other part of the world like Japan at KL Convention Center.

This model is expected to be launching next year March/April according to Canon Malaysia Marketing and pricing will only be available in Feb itself. Initial estimation is around RM20k per unit.

So, what this baby can do?

Lets look at some of the specs highlighted:

• 12fps (14fps if pre-lock)
• this is consider the fastest so far.. great for sport I guess and for wedding? hmmmm….
•  iso51200 (H1-102400, H2-204800)
• this is a super WOW to us especially for low light condition ! we took an image with iso51200 and zoom in, no noise at all! great news for f4.0 lens now..
• 18.1MB
• full frame
• dual digit v processor
• 400k shutter cycles 
• yeah…. like what Mr. Teoh said, worry free on shutter clicking
• 61 points AF with 41 cross type points
• finally, this feature will ensure accurate focusing and tracking !! a huge improvement compare to 5D Mark2
• Smart focusing with colour and face tracking
• customize buttons for user assignment
• great feature which we could assign what function on those multiple function button and everything can be control just with one hand.. (not sure about my hand … hahhaa)
• on the other hand, your friends or assistance might not be able to handle your camera since buttons are custom made to suit individual favour.
• multiple exposure
• a feature that Nikon users always proud of … now it is in Canon !
• in-camera raw process
• weight – 1.35kgs 
• compare to 5D Mark2 810g, 1D Mark IV 1.2kgs

It is really an interesting model and according to Canon Marketing Malaysia, this will be a different product line compare t o Canon EOS 1Ds Mark3 and 1D Mark 4… will this replace Canon 5D Mark2? will there be another cheaper version on 5D Mark3 coming soon? we shall wait and see.. however, during the launch, the feedback was so good that even some guests raised their hand and asking for pre-booking on this super model!

I like to daydream a lot.. and having a gallery is one of my daydreams as well.

It was just like yesterday when I pick up my first DLSR (Canon 400d) at One Utama Shopping Mall for my family portrait usage. I still remember the day when I look at the master wedding photographer’s slideshow in the workshop which took my breath away and from there onward, I told myself, one day I wanna be able to capture the moments shoots just like my sifu. Since late year 2007, I would say that I am  glad that I have chosen this path for my passion and in between, I also come to know a lot of my buddies and clients who are all now my friends. Beside I always dream of having my own studio or gallery , a place for me to display all my highlighted images and a place for me to meet up with clients and buddies for discussion rather than in Starbucks area. Thanks to my business partners, Nicholas Leong (Nicholas Leong Photography) and Sharon (The Weddingholics) who help to fulfill my little daydream.

In April 2011, we signed the rental agreement and started our plan on VIE Gallery. Over the past few months, we been working on design layout, purchasing furniture, printing albums and fine art prints display and our website and finally……….Let me introduce to you:

Vie is the umbrella brand for the partnership between three very passionate parties on everything to do with wedding. Edwin Tan Photography, Nicholas Leong Photography and The Weddingholics aim to provide the very best to all couples.
Vie, French for lifetime, was chosen as the name because we believe that all weddings should last a lifetime. Our gallery is located at Centrio, a beautiful SOHO complex in Pantai Hillpark, that is fitting of our ideals and personalities.

Finally, our gallery is Up! one of my daydreams for having own place displaying our images and comfortable location for meeting our clients. No more starbuck from now on hahahahah… Within the next few weeks will be busy preparing for the official opening on 2nd Oct 2011 !

yesterday, i post the below image (the image was captured in Sekinchan with my two lovely kiddo) tagging some of my friends who walk along the path in my life.. without their support, I cant go thru my life this far… and now, I would like to express my appreciation to all my clients / couples who entrusted us since the day I begin my wedding photography journey back in Sept 2007. It is almost 4 years now.. time flies.. and I cant believe I  captured more than 350 weddings over the last 4 years. Recently, I did a questionnaire requested by a magazine editor who ask me what keep me on going and motivated in this wedding photography… of course, $$ is part of it hahaha, no doubt, gears and photography are expensive ok … well. beside that, the major part or reason for me not to take other genre of photography i.e macro, landscape, and commerce , etc , is that I really love the feeling and satisfaction of capturing the moments in the wedding ceremony itself. Like I always said, I love to daydream one days after 10, 20, 30 years of the couple marriage, when they look back at all the moments captured and look at each others and give each other a smile.. that is all that matters to me…it is always unforgettable moments after the fast-edit slideshow, couple shaking our hands and express their appreciation and happiness on our work.

This evening, I met up with another client for details briefing on her wedding next month. At the end of the conversation, she told me, she been following my blogs since three years ago and finally today we met up, even though she booked our photography service for almost a year ago. I am truly touched and stunt for a moment, not sure how to answer or reply her. Thank you so much for all the trust and love from all of you…. there is nothing better than having clients who appreciate our work. I will do my best to keep my passion towards wedding photography…. once again, thank you…

When I started my journey as Wedding Photographer back in Sept, 2007, I have a lot of dreams.. haha , mostly day dreamsssssssss..within these few years, with the support from my business associate, vendors and of course all my lovely clients, step by step, my little little day dreams now coming true… yes, having a uniform of own branding is one of my dreamssssss.. to others, it might means couple of hundreds dollars spend on it for a few shirt, but these means a lot to me.. special thanks to my buddies, Ian Chong and Nicholas Leong who wear those uniform with me last week during our actual wedding day assignment for Choe Kee and Jamies’s happy moment.
