Manage to attend the first show of Jacky Cheung’s 1/2 Century Tour. It has been ages since the last concert I attend.. Jacky is always one of the singers I love.

Listening his songs bring back all the memories…. He presented 35 songs that night.. and I love every single one of them.. it is like a recharge for me..

beside I was surprise to meet up a few couples and photographers there too ! lol what a small world!

This movie is all about how they trying to stop a runaway train which contained explosive cargo. Nice sound effect and good story line.

Except.. the ending, 5mins at the end of the movie spoil the whole plot.. a leg injured person can jump from a jeep to the control room (cab) of the train and stop it while the whole movie we see how special task force, agents with helicopters, locomotive cant even touch a bit on the train nor even slow it down… that was really funny…

When I watch the trailer during my last visit in Cinema, I told myself.. hey, not bad with the special effect. So, I decided to watch it last night and this is what I personally think:

• special effect – not bad at all, at least, it doesnt seems like a B class movie to me. I love the scene on the poster too.
• haha, The main character was using Canon 5D mark II when trying to capture the “Alien’s moments”
• The first 30mins of the movie on how the couple arrived in the city and the birthday party is just non relevant to the movie
• The more I watch, the more I think I am wasting my $$ in this movie. Why?  I felt like it is the mixture of all aliens movie..
  • The Alien looks like the one in “Matrix”
  • The jet fighter against alien spaceship looks like “Independent Day” to me
  • The main character punching hard on the alien looks like “Independet Day” to me
  • The way they put the story like “Cloverfield” when the giant monster attack on the street & when the alien searching for human life form, “Wars of the World”
  • At the end when the main character turn into alien form, it become “District 9″ to me !!

based on the ending, seems there will be part 2 out soon and I am not sure if I will pay for the tickets again..

Echoes Of The Rainbow

A HK film which received multiple awards and nomination recently,directed by Alex Law and starring Simon Yam and Sandra Ng.

The story begin with shoemaker’s second son called Big Ears running out from a shop with his fish bowl on his head, seeing the world in his own perspective.. it really catch my attention from the beginning of the story. Then he start introducing his family members, his dad (Simon Yam) , mum (Sandra Ng), elder brother Desmond (Aarif Lee).. I like the way when his father ask him about school work and what he study in school, the first time conversation is like this:

The film maintains a degree of playfulness and naivete by filtering everything through Big Ear’s eyes. When the typhoon came, it changes the life of the family as they discover Desmond, the eldest son have cancer.. their world seems fall apart after that…a lovely movie to watch when you have free time ….just that the ending part is a bit disappointing to me

Legion, been seeing the trailer for sometimes and tonight, after met up client, dinner with HQ representative, manage to squeeze in 2 hours before I am on the desk again for photo editing, I went for this movie..

According to Wikipedia, Legion, also known as the Gerasene Demon, is a demon found in the Christian Bible. The New Testament outlines an encounter where Jesus healed a man from Gadarenes possessed by demons while traveling.

The movie story is started after God loses faith in humanity and, Michael,the fallen angel, against God’s instruction and try to save the humankind by protecting a pregnant lady until she give birth to her child, the child who will lead humankind out from the darkness and the only hope humankind has.

To me, this story seems like a different version of “Terminator” with robots changed to fallen angels and seems to be Legion II, III will be out soon lol.. but I like some of the quote (if I remember correctly) like:-You do what he want and I do what he need

Overall, I think it is not really the movie that worth for viewing unless you have 2 hours to spare with for some entertainment.

I am never a Star Trek fans to be honest and prefer Star War series all this while. One of the reasons I always have in mind from Star War over Star Trek is they have light saber and warship which show much advance compare to Star Trek……

But this movie really worth for watching in my opinion despite the last part which I mention below.

Come back to this movie, It is the eleventh film based on the Star Trek franchise and features the main characters of the original Star Trek TV series since 1966 which show James T. Krik and Spock before they unite aboard the USS Enterprise to combat Nero , the Romulan which threaten the United Federation of Planets with time travel as the main story line backbone. You must be able to understand the time traveling in order to understand the whole storyline.

The story overall is fine with me, just find a bit too easy for The United Federation of Planets to appoint the captain for USS Enterprise which is the newest spaceship for them and seems human have no problem on surviving in planets and even Romulan’s miner ship without any confirmation on oxygen existence ? Something that never get out of my mind…

Just watch the movie last time and kinda like the movie compare to some other which shown recently in cinema.

This movie is a film adaptation of Dan Brown’s eponymous novel, released on May 15, 2009. It is the sequel to The Da Vinci Code, another Brown film adaptation, although the novel Angels & Demons was published and takes place before the novel The Da Vinci Code. Tom Hanks reprises the lead role of Robert Langdon.

The movie started with Pope’s funeral in the Vatican and switches to CERN, the research facility in Geneva whereby the team is doing their first creation of antimatter. Someone stolen the antimatter and kill off the researcher in the lab. Then Robert Langdon were invited by Vatican Police to Vatican and on the way told him about the kidnapping of four cardinals who one of them will succeed as Pope. The kidnapper seems to be from Illuminati and threaten to kill cardinals every hours starting 8pm and end up with explosion at mid night.

The whole story now continue on how Robert Langdon trace back the history of this mistery Illuminati and the conflict between Vatican and them back in year 1668. The attack seems to be seen as the vengeance on the Vatican which will be a shock by the end of the movie

Same as The Da Vinci Code Movie, this movie received a lot of critics during the filming and according to wikipedia source, there are some of the comments for sharing:

• CBS News interviewed a priest working in Santa Susanna, who stated the Church did not want their churches to be associated with scenes of murder. A tour guide also stated most priests do not object to tourists who visit out of interest after reading the book, a trend which will continue after people see the film. “I think they are aware that it’s, you know, a work of fiction and that it’s bringing people into their churches.”Grazer deemed it odd that although The Da Vinci Code was a more controversial novel, they had more freedom shooting its film adaptation in London and France.^[7] Italian authorities hoped the filmmakers corrected the location errors in the novel, to limit the amount of explaining they will have to do for confused tourists.
• William A. Donohue, president of the Catholic League, has not called for a boycott, but has requested that Catholics inform others about alleged anti-Catholic sentiments in the story. “My goal… is to give the public a big FYI: Enjoy the movie, but know that it is a fable. It is based on malicious myths, intentionally advanced by Brown-Howard.” A Sony executive responded they were disappointed Donohue had not created attention for the film closer to its release date.Howard criticized Donohue for prejudging the film, responding it could not be called anti-Catholic since Langdon protects the church, and because of its depiction of priests who support science.
• Rajan Zed felt Angels & Demons would bring confusion and create stereotypes in the minds of some audiences. He added that the filmmakers should have handled the subject more sensitively as cinema is a very powerful medium In India, parts of the movie were censored following complaints from local Christian communities.
• The official Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano has called the film “”harmless entertainment”, giving it a positive review and acknowledging “The theme is always the same: a sect versus the church, [but] this time, the church is on the side of the good guys.”^[21][22] Beforehand, it had stated it would not approve the film, while La Stampa reported the Vatican would boycott it. However, it also quoted Archbishop Velasio De Paolis as saying a boycott would probably just have the “boomerang effect” of drawing more attention to Angels & Demons and make it more popular.

And so begins “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards.  A man, like any of us, unable to stop time.  We follow his story set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man’s life can be.  Directed by David Fincher, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” is a time traveler’s tale of the people and places he bumps into along the way, the loves he loses and finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

Daisy tells the story of a blind clockmaker named Gateau, who was commissioned to create a clock to hang in the New Orleans train station. After receiving news of his son’s death in World War I, he continued work on his clock, but intentionally designed it to run backward, in the hope that it would bring back those who died in the war. After her cryptic story, Daisy asks Caroline to read aloud from a diary containing photographs and postcards written by Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt). Caroline begins to read as the story transitions to Benjamin’s narration.

Here, I feel that the writer has cleverly prepare the audience / reader into the story that he wanted to tell later on, very smart move indeed. The best part I like about this story.

On November 11, 1918, just as the people of New Orleans are celebrating the end of World War I, a baby boy is born with the appearance and physical maladies of an elderly man. The mother of the baby dies shortly after giving birth, and the father, Thomas Button, takes the baby and abandons him on the porch of a nursing home. Queenie and Tizzy, a couple who work at the nursing home, find the baby. Queenie, who is unable to conceive, decides to take the baby in as her own, against Tizzy’s wishes. She names the baby Benjamin.

Over the course of the story, Benjamin begins to biologically grow younger. In 1930, while still appearing to be in his seventies, he meets a young girl named Daisy , whose grandmother lives in the nursing home. The children play together and listen to Daisy’s grandmother read from a storybook.

A few years later, Benjamin goes to work on a tugboat on the docks of New Orleans for Captain Mike . In their free time, the captain takes him to brothels and bars. For the first time, Benjamin meets Thomas Button, who does not reveal that he is Benjamin’s father. Later, Benjamin leaves New Orleans with the tugboat crew for a long-term work engagement; Daisy asks him to send her postcards from his travels, which Benjamin does.

During a stay in Russia, Benjamin meets a British woman named Elizabeth Abbott and falls in love with her; Daisy is visibly hurt to receive this news via postcard. Elizabeth is already married, but she has an affair with Benjamin. The fling ends the day after the Pearl Harbor attack, when Elizabeth abruptly departs.

Benjamin gets caught up in World War II when Captain Mike’s boat and crew are enlisted by the United States Navy. After engaging a German U-boat in battle, Captain Mike and most of the sailors perish. After this, Benjamin, after seeing a hummingbird, sees death in a different way, as opposed to the retirement home where death seemed more natural.

In 1945, Benjamin returns to New Orleans, and learns that Daisy has become a successful dancer in New York City. When he travels there to meet Daisy at a performance, he finds Daisy has fallen in love with a fellow dancer, and tries to accept that their lives have separated.

Benjamin again meets Thomas Button, who is dying. Thomas reveals to Benjamin that he is his father and bequeaths all of his assets to Benjamin, including the house and the family button-making business. Benjamin eventually makes peace with his father before the elder Button dies.

Daisy’s dance career is ended by a car accident in Paris. When Benjamin goes to see her, Daisy is amazed at his youthful appearance, but frustrated at her own injuries, turns him away.

In 1962, Daisy returns to New Orleans and meets Benjamin again. Now the same physical age, they fall in love and move in together. They experience the 1960s together, in large part blissfully but increasingly aware of Benjamin growing younger while Daisy grows older.

After Daisy gives birth to a girl, Caroline, Benjamin, believing he cannot be a father to his daughter due to his reverse aging, and not wanting to burden Daisy with having to raise two children, sells his belongings, and leaves them to Daisy and Caroline before leaving them both to travel the world.

Reading this account in the hospital room of 2005, Caroline learns that Benjamin is her father. She is upset that Daisy took such a long time to inform her of this, but finds that Benjamin sent her a postcard from everywhere for each of her birthdays expressing his love for his daughter.

In 1980, Benjamin, now looking like a young man, returns to meet Daisy in her dance studio. The aging Daisy is now married to Robert Williams, a kind man who supports her well, to Benjamin’s relief. Daisy introduces Benjamin to Robert and the 12-year-old Caroline as a long-time family friend. Daisy and Benjamin then meet privately in Benjamin’s hotel where they share their passion for each other, but they mutually realize that Daisy has become too old for Benjamin.

Benjamin departs again and continues to grow younger. One day Daisy receives a phone call from social workers. They inform her that they found Benjamin – now a young pre-teen just hitting puberty – living in a condemned building, and that they called her because they saw her name all over his diary. The social workers believe that he has dementia as he sometimes forgets that he had just eaten and cannot remember Daisy or much of his past. Daisy moves into the nursing home where Benjamin grew up and takes care of him as he becomes a confused 5-year-old boy with a growing temper.

In 2002, Mr. Gateau’s old clock is removed from the train station. Shortly afterward, in the spring of 2003, the now-physically infant, 85-year-old Benjamin dies in Daisy’s arms. At the moment before Benjamin dies, Daisy claims to have seen in his eyes that he still remembered her.

In the 2005 hospital room, the hurricane raging outside downs the electrical system. As Caroline briefly leaves the room, Daisy passes away, her wish of seeing Benjamin again seemingly answered by a hummingbird hovering outside the storm-drenched windows. Against the sounds of the city’s emergency sirens and reports of breached levees, the backwards clock is shown in a basement, still working, as floodwaters envelope the storage room where it is kept.

Got a chance to watch this movie in thearte thanks to Kris, WeddingsMalaysia’s invitation for the event hosted by both AWP & WM last night.

Bride Wars, starred by Kate Hudson & Anne Hathaway talks about two best friends become rivals when they schedule their respective weddings on the same day after their wedding dates are mixed up by the wedding planner’s assistance.

A comedy that will make you laugh for a while and too bad the ending is not my favour.

Just to quote some memorable quotes in the movie:

Starring: James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Angelina Jolie, Thomas Kretschmann

Not sure why Angelina & Morgan Freeman pickup this movie, it does not work well for me. The storyline is too unrealistic. I have been watching a lot of movies and are open minded to all sort of theories but shooting in curve line, healing in the pool? this is way to comics to me.

The movie mention the theory that : Kill one and maybe save thousands

But who have the right to issue such order?  a loom that gives the names of the targets through a binary code hidden in weaving errors of the fabric?

Beside those usual gun fights and car chases, don’t think this movie worth for 2nd watch.
